What is the Global Supply Chain Discourse Community?

A discourse community can be described as a group of professionals who have the same goals and purposes and use specific communication genres in order to spread knowledge and achieve these goals.
GSC Discourse Community
Global supply chain can be seen as a sub-discourse community to the business community in general. The discourse community of global supply chain can be broken up into two different sections: academic vs. floor workers. The academic side contains supply chain faculty who perform research on the more theoretical aspects of supply chain. They are the brains behind the process. The floor workers execute the physical work needed to create a product or service and making sure that product is then shipped to the customer.
The goals of the GSC discourse community involve achieving ultimate efficiency when producing a product, driving customer value, enhancing organizational processes , building a network and facilitating financial successes. These are the main focuses professionals within a supply chain career focus on.
In order to be a member of this community, professionals must at least hold an associates degree in business with a concentration in GSCM.
This community may communicate through newsletters, conferences, meetings, business notes and reports, journals and news articles.
The members are typically college degree holders with a career within GSCM. They could be logitic analysts, supply chain operations leaders and much more.
